1. Please obscure/blur the view when passcode is enabled and the app is backgrounded. The text can still be viewed in app switcher (double click home button) and briefly when returning to the app before the passcode screen appears. 2. An iCloud option for syncing documents, folder structure, and settings across devices would be nice.

Perfect.

Simple and exactly what I wanted.

My iOS nv-Alt app

I live in nv-Alt on my Mac and 1Writer has become my psuedo nv-Alt app on iOS. The apps search features are great and and editing documents is a breeze. The only thing holding back that last star are some screen layout problems in landscape mode. Everything works great in portrait mode, but in landscape some of the screen gets cut off. Fix that and Ill be back to hand out that last star.

My new homescreen writing app

1Writer is just great. From the big features right down to the small details. In-line Markdown preview without having to switch between modes is a great touch. 1Writer is worth it. Get it.

Simply the best

I love this app.

Fantastic. Extensible.

Great app. Simple to get started. Extensible enough via JavaScript for pro custom uses.

This is the 1.

I feel like Ive downloaded (and bought!) nearly every writing, notes, and markdown app that is available for iOS. Sometimes I want something to take quick notes and with quick search to find them. Then I want something to compose longer material for articles or posts I write. And, of course, I want it all in the same app. Well, I do believe Ive figured that out. Its 1Writer. It has a host of features that make it a great text and markdown editor, note taken and longform writer. Here are a few of the little details that I appreciate: - Lightning fast sync with Dropbox (and you can add any DB folder to the file list). - Lightning fast search in titles AND inside files. - Offline use. - Quick new entry: the file name is prefilled with the Date and Time but is highlighted so you can change it if desired. - Helpful (customizable) toolbar with access to frequent functions. - Auto-Preview of markdown in reading mode. - A huge library of actions that can be installed (Post to Day One, search and highlight text in a file, jump to a section, and so many more.) Add what you need and none you dont. - Universal app that works just as well on iPhone. - You can include pictures (auto-hosted and linked via Dropbox). - Checklist formatting (with an Action to send items to common ToDo apps) is great for projects and listing items, checklists and tasks. - Built-in web browser 1Writer is an absolutely well designed app which is very simple and yet has tons of features. You dont often see an app that is capable of being both, but 1Writer is. Combine this with something like nvALT on your Mac (or Byword or iAWriter for longer writing) and youve got a fabulous text file solution. Ill also add that updates are frequent. It was just a few days after release that 1Writer got its iOS9 features. Excellent!

Crashes when I use the button to make a checklist

Please fix This app is too expensive for sloppy crashes like this

Useful. MathJax support?

All in all. If you write your papers in markdown this app will be very useful. A few things that I do think can be improved are, no MathJax / Tex support. Another is the confusing iCloud import. I havent found a good way to simply import an iCloud document directly to the documents.

Simply gorgeous!

Simple & elegant markdown editor.

Just right

Im finding 1Writer sits in a sweet spot for my modest needs. It has enough features to do what I need and not so many that its overwhelming. It has been solid and stable under iOS 8 and 9. Its extendable and has a reasonable number of useful enhancements that can be installed. Maybe not as many as some others but honestly I dont need a lot for what I do on an iPad. I do like that it doesnt impose a specific Dropbox folder but instead has access to any of my Dropbox folders. I had a UI question (related to using a Bluetooth keyboard instead of the iPads keyboard) and got a prompt, truly helpful reply from the developer. I have two other iOS Markdown and text editors, but 1Writer is the one Im reaching for first.

Best Notes

Use it everyday with Dropbox. Excellent.

Best Plain-Text/Markdown App Out There

I have tried most of the minimalist plain-text/ markdown apps available and this is by far the best. Before 1Writer I bounced back and forth between several apps, never able to find one that was quite right. I have been using 1Writer for at least a couple years and have yet to find another app that comes close in terms of functionality, ease of use, aesthetics and customer support.

Perfect Dropbox-compatible Markdown Editor

I was looking for a full-featured Dropbox compatible text editor for a long time and tried several apps in this category, but after reading a review about the new features of 1Writer, I decided to purchase this app and give it a try. Extended keyboard, check box option, real-time preview, background app refresh and above all, Dropbox auto-sync feature are just some of its advantages. The notification widget and sharing option are awesome and handy as well. I was confused at first while I was trying to get the auto-sync feature to work, but after a few minutes, I simply set up a Dropbox folder and now everything will be synced between all of my devices.

Best

All the best features in a competitive app category.

Fantastic

1Writer feels like the offspring of Drafts, with its thorough URL scheme and customizable export options, and Byword, with excellent Markdown support and document storage/retrieval. There are lots of clever touches. The plain-text task list is a nice feature you wont find many other places, and the URL scheme means you can save a shortcut for quick access to it from Launch Center Pro or elsewhere. The power-user possibilities are nearly endless, and Ive already made custom workflows to encode and decode selected text or to save a reminder in Due that will open the desired document for writing/editing when I complete the reminder. These functions take more setup, and it would be great if the developer added some of them as default options. Great writing app--currently on my home screen--at an amazing price. Buy it! * UPDATE * The inline Markdown price view in 1Writer is the best Ive seen, with support for more syntax and fewer mistakes. Its great to see the effect your syntax will have, without abandoning the benefits of plain text. The sorting option for documents is a welcome addition. The text selection is now much better. And the curly bracket encoding opens up a host of new possibilities for more advanced workflows. Great updates! This is also the only app I know of that has a public /replace parameter in the URL scheme. You can do amazing things with this feature and TextTool, Drafts, Terminology, and others. @benwhiting on Twitter

Latest Update Keeps Crashing

This is one of my FAVORITE Apps. I use it daily. But after the latest update, it just keeps crashing. Please fix this! I need this App. I dont know what to do without it.

My favorite text & markdown editor for iPhone

1Writer is by far my favorite iPhone text and Markdown editor. Most important is the fact that it simply feels right. Stuff I love about it, in random order: * Its clean. When Im writing, theres just the editing area and the keyboard (some other editors leave the top status bar in place, for example) * It has inline markdown formatting (H1s are larger, bulleted lists are indented properly, etc.) * It has the option to launch with a blank document for quick note-taking * Related to that, the default filename is a sensible timestamp * It has an attractive dark mode * It allows me to customize the font, which seems to be verboten these days for some reason * It has word count optionally displayed in the upper right corner of the editing window (which can be configured to display character, sentence, or paragraph count) * Its updated for iPhone 6 (I find it very difficult to type in apps that havent yet updated for larger sized iPhones – looking at you, Daedalus Touch) * Markdown preview * You can add what Im going to call GFM style checkboxes (like `* [ ]`) which you can check off in markdown preview and which you can export to other apps like Things * It has an extensible “Actions” menu (Tweet, send to Day One, etc.) * It has an optional extended row of keys on the keyboard * It converts hashtags in the text to tags that can be used to organize your files The list is growing long and rambling, so Ill cut it short and say its clean and attractive with sensible defaults, and if all you want to do is type notes this app excels at that, but theres lots of functionality under the hood too. My sense is that Ive only scratched the surface. [Edit: I previously left a comment about how I wish I could add punctuation and whatnot to the extra row of customizable keys on the keyboard. It turns out you can: Press and hold any of the customizable keys, and the last character you typed in the editor shows up as an option. Nice!] There are some small refinements Id like to see, but all in all this has been a great find. Thanks to the developer for all your hard work!

Wonderful

My favorite writing app. I use Dropbox, Markdown, and Notational Velocity and everything works great. Thanks!

The *Best* Markdown App!

Im happy to see a bunch of new press for this app. Ive been using it for years and love its power and beauty! This is by far my favorite Markdown editor. Byword is very popular, but 1Writer just blows it out if the water. Its incredibly aesthetically pleasing, and the developer is constantly refining it. Heres some thoughts: - I wish that the settings & tags view was easier to get to. I use that a lot. I dont like that I have to go all the way out to the main folders because I only use Dropbox. - Silly gripe, but I wish that I could change the markup settings. For example, I like to use a hyphen for a new list item and an underscore for italics. I can manually put them in, but that destroys the nice quick buttons purpose. - It would be great if a cursor position circle was available like WordBox and Write have. - YAML front-matter support would be really nice. - Any chance for MultiMarkdown support? - I love the new settings for the today view, and the share extension is wonderful!
